French West Frenchies:

We, the seller, agree to warranty this puppy for 1 year from the date of reservation from any illness that is genetically related. We, the sellers, will replace the defective puppy with a puppy of comparable quality and price, as determined by the seller, from the next available litter, after the safe return of the defective puppy. Full medical documentation must precede the return of the defective animal. The documentation must explicitly and singularly identify that the cause of the puppy’s defect is genetically related. The results of this documentation are to be evaluated by a veterinarian of the seller’s choosing to confirm and authenticate the results provided by the buyer’s veterinarian. The findings and opinions of the seller’s veterinarian are to be considered final and ultimate opinion. All transportation expenses involved in the return of the original puppy as well as the replacement puppy are the responsibility of the buyer. We, the seller, do not agree to compensate the buyer for any veterinarian expenses other than those detailed below related to the parvo virus.

The buyer must have the puppy inspected by a veterinarian of the buyer’s choice within 48 hours of the arrival of the puppy. If a condition, genetic or otherwise, is found, that is a major detriment to the puppy’s long-term health, the buyer may return the puppy for a puppy of comparable quality and price, as determined by the seller. The buyer must make the seller aware of this discovery within 48 hours of the time that the buyer receives the puppy. The replacement puppy will be delivered to the buyer, from the next available litter, after the safe return of the original puppy. All transportation expenses related to the original puppy as well as the replacement puppy are the responsibility of the buyer. The seller does not extend this policy related to common or insignificant or short-term conditions. These include, but are not limited to, the presence of common parasites, hernias, simple bacterial infections (roundworms, coccidia, giardia, hookworms, tapeworms, etc.), fleas, small scratches, scrapes or bites from other puppies or coughs that are deemed to be short -term and easily treated and not considered a major detriment to the puppy’s long-term health. The opinion of the seller’s vet, during the initial examination is to be considered final regarding non-genetic illnesses and cannot jeopardize the seller if the puppy is mis-diagnosed by the buyer’s veterinarian regarding diagnosis or prognosis of the condition. All veterinarian expenses resulting from this inspection are the responsibility of the buyer not the seller.

The buyer has five days upon the discovery of the above mentioned major and long-term health detriment to return the puppy to the proximity of

The seller.  Failure to return the puppy to seller within five days is construed to reflect that the buyer is satisfied with the puppy’s health and absolves the seller from responsibility from that day forward for non-genetic illnesses or problems.

Our warranty does not apply to afflictions that are common in the Bulldog breeds. These include, but are not limited to, cherry eye. Entropion, “Loose” hips, Ivdd, skin allergies, elongated soft palate and collapsed nostrils.

1) Because of the angularity and frame structure of Bulldogs, a person could make the case that every bulldog (in theory) is dysplastic to a degree. Much of what could be clinically classified as dysplasia via X-ray, has no negative impact on the dog in terms of discomfort or physical limitations and is a result of breed characteristics that are specified in breed standards.

2) There are factors other than genetics that contribute to Dysplasia. Including, but not limited to, the slope that a dogs lives on, the floor surface, the activities the dog participates in.

Our 1 year genetic warranty also will include an event of sudden death of a puppy that we sell, due to genetically related circumstances, we agree to replace the puppy with a puppy of comparable quality and price, as determined by the seller, from the next available litter, after the death of the puppy, when the seller receives a certificate of death issued from a licensed veterinarian. The certificate of death must say explicitly that the cause of death was related to an identified genetic condition. The results of this certificate are to be evaluated by a veterinarian of the seller’s choosing to confirm and authenticate the results. All post-mortem procedures performed on the deceased puppy are the responsibility of the buyer. All transportation expenses related to the replacement puppy are the responsibility of the buyer. We, the sellers do not agree to extend this policy to puppies that die in a non-sudden manner. (I.e., from a condition that the buyer had become aware of previously but has elected not to return the puppy to breeder for a comparable replacement or to seek veterinary intervention when possible either).

We represent our puppies as being suitable as pets only. We make no claim that they are suited as breeding or show animals and we offer no compensation for circumstances or characteristics that limit the dogs

Ability to be bred or competitively shown.
Breeding quality can only be determined at maturity and suggested under the advisement of a licensed veterinarian.

We at French West Frenchies do not guarantee the Degenerative Myelopathy gene also known as DM.

Degenerative Myelopathy is not just passed on through genes, in fact it has been proven by necropsy that a dog completely clear of DM within health results has in fact had the disease. A necropsy is an autopsy to prove the diagnosis of dm. without this there is no such thing as a diagnosis. Even after health tests coming back with your dog being a double carrier and at higher risk of having DM only once the dog passes away and has the autopsy can you be sure of this. This is where it gets complicated which is why I want you to understand DM.

Basically, degenerative myelopathy affects older dogs between 8 and 14 years of age. It is a progressive disease of the spinal cord. The affected dog begins to lose co-ordination in the hind limbs (ataxia). For example, the dog may wobble, knuckle over or even drag the feet as they are not aware of their movement. The disease is more commonly found in breeds such as German shepherds and Welsh corgis, but also affect other breeds. The cause is still unknown although in 2008 this disease was found in 43 breeds.

DM is apparently only passed through the dog’s genetics, but this is not true. a dog completely clear has been diagnosed after death of DM. in breeding terms if both parents are clear (n/n) then all of the puppies will supposedly be clear… also if one parent is a carrier (n/a) and one is clear (n/n) each puppy has 50% chance of being clear and 50% chance of carrying. By being a carrier of one copy of DM (n/a|) does not make the puppy infected. Whereas if both parents are carriers (n/a) each puppy has a 25% chance of being clear (n/n), 50% chance of being a carrier, and 25% chance of being affected and a carrier (a/a). If one parent is clear (n/n) and one is affected, carrying two copies (a/a) then the whole litter with be carriers (n/a). If one parent is a carrier (n/a) and one is at risk (a/a) each puppy has a 50% chance of being affected and a carrier (a/a). for instance a dog that has one mutated copy of the gene and one normal copy of the gene, is classified as a carrier.

(n/n) = Normal/ Normal

(n/a) = Normal/Abnormal

(a/a) = Abnormal/Abnormal

We try very hard not to breed any of our females that are not health tested and cleared, but we do sometimes have some that might carry 1 copy. We use studs outside of our breeding program and cannot guarantee the stud isn’t a carrier, we try to only use studs with a health DNA but as you can see there is no guarantee!

Parvo

We offer a cash compensation, not replacement, in the instance of a puppy we sell that acquires the Parvo virus.

Parvo is a canine virus that is commonly thought by many veterinarians to have an incubation period of 3-7 days. If the puppy breaks with Parvo within the first three days after you receive it, then it probably did not contract the virus at your location and we, the seller, will compensate up to $100 in documented medical expenses related to Parvo if it is reported to us within 72 hours after the puppy is received. If the puppy breaks with Parvo between three-seven days after it leaves our premises, then it is clear the puppy contracted the virus at your location or otherwise.

Puppy will be current on worming and vaccinations appropriate for age.

If your dog is mistreated, malnourished, abused, kenneled, or not taken care of, the Warranty is completely null and void.

There is no guarantee or warranty that the buyer will be able to breed or show the dog purchased regardless of show or breeding potential.

By submitting this contract, you agree to the following: If there comes a time in your life when you need to get rid of your French West Frenchie BULLDOG, we retain the right of first refusal. This means that if you are getting rid of your Frenchie, for any reason, you must first contact us and give us the opportunity to take the dog back. It is important to us where our Frenches go and we typically have a list of people looking for them. So, if circumstances in your life change and your baby needs a new home or you just want to get rid of him/her, you have to contact us first. This Warranty is not transferable from the original purchaser.

General Information

Every line of dogs has some issues common to their breed. The French bulldog is a small breed of domestic dog. “Frenches” were the result in the 1800s of a cross between bulldog ancestors imported from England and local ratters in Paris (France) Frenches are very playful and affectionate. ] They are loyal, loving, and wonderful companion dogs. French Bulldogs can be a challenge to train due to their willful and stubborn nature. They require patience, repetition, and early socialization they are often referred to as ‘a clown in the cloak of a philosopher’ French bulldogs are commonly called pig dogs in the UK as their resemblance to pigs in snorting noises and appearance.  Stress– one must understand that it is stressful for any puppy to leave its home and littermates or playmates. Like you, a pup under stress, is more susceptible to illness. His immune system is compromised while under stress. There are millions of bacteria, fungi and depending on environment, viruses all over. If pup encounters these while he/she is stressed, he/she will be less able to fight it off. Be very considerate of this factor, keep the pup quiet and wait until he knows you and is over his/her stressful time to expose him to new and exciting (and usually germ and virus’ friendly) atmospheres. Like going to Petco or Pet Smart to choose a new bone or inviting all your family and friends over to see him. Give him/her time, keep him/her away from stress as much as possible the first 10 days or so. Hold him/her in your lap at the Vet, like Hospitals where there are sick people all over, vet offices see sick dogs every day. It may take a few days of rest to be themselves, this is normal. We suggest that you do not expose your new puppy to new things until you have had him for 2 weeks. Keep him/her in your yard, hold him/her if you cannot. He/She is a baby just like a human baby. You know how they catch every cold around? It is because they are new to the world and their immune system needs to be exposed to things to become strong, same thing with baby puppies. Pups are current on their vaccinations including – hepatitis, parainfluenza, parvo, and Bordetella and NeoPar when they leave French West Frenchies. You will need to give several more when the pup gets a bit older. Speak with your vet about what is appropriate for your area.  Just because a puppy is current on vaccinations, this does not mean they are immune. You will be given a Puppy Health Form with your dog. This will detail what vaccinations and worming’s they have had and when. All the dogs here at French West Frenchies are on a comprehensive health program that was compiled with the help of our veterinarian.
